Jatiya Sangsad Whip Shamsul Hoque Chowdhury, who is contesting the general election from Chattogram-12 constituency as an independent candidate, has set up an election camp on the premises of a school in Patiya, violating the electoral rules.
A video clip showing the election camp has gone viral on social media platform Facebook.
It was seen in the clip that the election camp of Whip Shamsul was set up on the premises of local Mothpara Govt Primary School at Chhanhara village, creating resentment among the locals.
Sources said posters were placed on the entrance of the school while a huge portion of the field was captured for setting up the camp.
Awami League Chhanhara union unit convener Md Yunus said the admission activities of the school are being hampered due to the establishment of the election camp on the school premise.
Two persons named Osman Alamdar and Arif Alamdar set up the camp behalf of the independent candidate Shamsul, he alleged.
Patiya Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Assistant Returning Officer Alauddin Bhuiyan said there is no scope of setting up any electoral camp on the school premises.
“A notice has already been issued to remove the camp from the school premises,” he said, adding that legal action will be taken if the camp is not removed.
